Thank you for everyone who voted in the Zorin OS 2.0 poll. You voted to make Zorin OS 2.0 look like Windows 7. As you may know, Zorin OS 2.0 is less than half a month away (1st of January 2010). The Zorin OS 2.0 "look and feel" poll is now closed. This decision affects Zorin OS 2.0's look and feel. The winning answer was "Windows 7" so from now on Zorin OS will replicate Windows 7's graphical user interface. You will, however, be able to change the look back to the previous versions of Zorin OS (which replicates Windows Vista's graphical user interface) easily.

Some Zorin OS 2.0 screenshots have also been uploaded. They are availible to view in the "Pictures" page on this site.

Just as a quick reminder, Zorin OS 2.0 will be availible on the 1st of January 2010.

The Zorin OS Team are proud to announce to you that they have released Zorin OS Limited Edition '09, the second Zorin OS release yet. This is a DVD-only release that costs €10. Zorin OS Limited Edition '09 is based on Ubuntu 9.10. It features some Christmas artwork as well as updated programs, bug fixes, a newer kernel version, compatibility improvements and much much more (see below for more newer features). The DVD is available to buy on the Zorin OS Store page on this site. It is availible in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.

What's new in Zorin OS Limited Edition '09:

Zorin OS Limited Edition '09 is based on Ubuntu 9.10 (see what's new in Ubuntu 9.10)

Zorin OS now comes with a newer, brighter theme:

The Limited Edition release comes with a few Christmas-themed wallpapers.

More newer artwork.

Many bugs fixed such as the OAFIID GnoMenu bug.

A newer Linux Kernel version (2.6.31).

Many other updated programs including the OpenOffice.org office suite, GIMP image editor, the Firefox web browser, the Rhythmbox music player, the Movie Player, the WINE Windows program compatibility software, the file browser and the Dictionary.

We also included more software such as many games, the Play on Linux program which lets you download and install Windows software in one place easily and the Ubuntu One client which lets you store up to 2GB of files online in the Ubuntu cloud.

Zorin OS now comes with full compatibility for the ext4 filesystem by default resulting in faster drive read speeds.

Zorin OS now is availible on DVD.

Many more under-the-hood improvements and refinements introduced.

The Zorin OS Team would like to remind you that Zorin OS Limited Edition '09 will be available on the 7th of December 2009, thats tomorrow. We have finished the first batch of 10 DVDs and they look great! We used high quality glossy paper for the front and back cover and the DVDs are inkjet printed. You can order these DVDs on the "Store" page on this site tomorrow for €10 plus postage where applicable. Based on the current conversion rates it will cost around $15. By buying a DVD you are supporting the Zorin OS project.

The Zorin OS Team are happy to announce to you that the OAFIID GnoMneu bug has been fixed. This bug was caused by GnoMneu, which is the start menu program. To fix this error on your Zorin OS 1.0 machine follow this guide:

1. Download this file and extract it by right clicking on it and pressing "Extract here"

2. Go to the Terminal and type in the following: "cd (the location of the gnomenu folder)", press the ENTER key and then type in "sudo make install".

3. Relogin and it should be fixed.

4. The themes, however changed. To get the Zorin OS menu themes back, right click on the menu and select "Preferences". Then change the menu theme to "Dark", the button theme to "Z7" and change the icon theme to "Default". Then press OK and "Reload" when it asks you to.

The Zorin OS Team are happy to say that Zorin OS 1.0 was a success, with an estimated 2000 downloads! Zorin OS 2.0 will only get better! Development for Zorin OS 2.0 has been started, especially after the release of Ubuntu 9.10, and you are a key part of it! If you have any programs, artwork or anything that might be of use to the Zorin OS project, head over to the "Development" section of the Zorin OS Forums and post a topic in the correct category. Who knows, your creations could end up in the next release of Zorin OS!

Ubuntu 9.10 has been released today. This is a major event to the Zorin OS project as Ubuntu is the base operating system of Zorin OS. This means that whatever happens in Ubuntu happens in Zorin OS, with a few exceptions. The new release of Ubuntu will mean more features in Zorin OS, better performance, less bugs and much much more.

There will be a limited edition version of Zorin OS being sold on DVD at the St Conleths Christmas fair. It will be called "Zorin OS Limited Edition '09". DVD's will cost €10 each and include Christmas wallpapers made by us, that will never be released to the public. It is a pre-release version of Zorin OS 2.0 (Be Free).
